The first days of 2026!

January 16, 2026

Dear readers
We are now several days into the new year 2026!
In my neighborhood, the old year was bid farewell with endless noise and banging. I always wonder, is this really necessary? In a short period of time, an incredible amount of energy is released, producing this noise and, of course, beautiful images in the sky to bid farewell to the old year.
I always think of the animals, who are completely terrified and cannot understand what is happening. They hide in fear or do not know where to fly or run, because the same noise comes from everywhere and the same flashes can be seen in the sky.
Can’t we make better use of the energy released by the exploding fireworks by building loving energy towards our fellow human beings, our neighbors, and simply the people we encounter? Many people, young and old, are alone and would perhaps be very happy to receive a beautiful smile.
This year began beautifully for us here in northern Germany, in Lower Saxony, with a blanket of white snow. The snow remained pure for many days. It was so quiet, so clean, so pure. We haven’t had such a beautiful winter landscape in a long time. Unfortunately, the snow prevented the trains from running and many roads were not cleared of snow.
Because of all this, I was unfortunately unable to get to training, as the tires on my wheelchair and hand bike are not suitable for winter conditions.
On January 15, it is significantly warmer. Most of the snow has melted and the roads are supposed to be clearer again. So I set off to get back to training.
I am very happy and consider myself very fortunate that, after such a long time, I have managed to achieve so much. Afterwards, I meet a dear friend at a restaurant.
She tells me that she is volunteering for this year’s World Day of Prayer.
Do you know how the World Day of Prayer came about? I researched this at home to find out more. North American women first called for it in 1926. A year later, the first World Day of Prayer took place. Many years later, in 1967, women from all over the world gathered again in Anderson, Indiana, USA, for a consultation and organized the founding of a provisional World Day of Prayer Executive Committee.
This was followed by the founding meeting of the International World Day of Prayer Committee in a castle in Vallingby, Sweden, from June 20 to 25, 1968. The World Day of Prayer in its present form was born.
I am always impressed by how a few people, in this case women, were able to start a movement that, after so many years, is still alive and growing today.
Everyone may have their own thoughts on this.

I wish everyone a wonderful 2026 with much joy, happiness, harmony, and peace, the best possible health, and much success and satisfaction in your daily activities.
May it be a year in which more peace returns to our beautiful world and we are able to live together in love, compassion, and gratitude.

Warm regards from Eugen
