September 25, 2025

Dear reader,

A lot has happened in the meantime.

At the beginning of September, my book Forward—Giving Up is Not an Option was exhibited in Chicago.

It was on display at the 2025 Printers Row Lit Fest held at the historic Printing House Row District in Chicago, IL on the weekend of September 6 and 7, 2025.

The book will also be available in Toronto, Canada.

The Word on the Street will take place on September 27-28, 2025, at David Pecaut Square, Toronto.

With the 2025 Word on the Street Bookstore Gallery service, my book will be displayed in front of thousands of festival attendees.

Isn’t that wonderful?

I also continued to ride my hand bike and wheelchair regularly for training.

This is an incredible benefit for me.

I write about this repeatedly in the book Forward—Giving Up is Not an Option. Unfortunately, many people do not place a high value on training. Training has enabled me to remain incredibly mobile and active despite all my limitations. The wonderful thing is that training has another benefit that I didn’t expect at all. I quote from the book:

“I have also noticed another extremely positive side effect: through my regular training, I have become more mentally sharp and more physically agile, and I look to the future in a more cheerful and confident way.

If that is not a confidence-boosting success, what is?” (Page 193)

I would now like to share a very nice experience of the last few days.

I was on my way home from training. The train app said that my train had a broken boarding ramp, which is important for wheelchair users to get on the train. Unfortunately, I have encountered this problem frequently lately. I have found that sometimes the boarding ramp on the other side of the train is defective. In that case, I can easily be picked up if the platform is always on the same side. When I arrived at the platform, I saw the train driver standing at the other end of the train, as the train had to wait a while before departing. I then made my way over and found an incredibly nice and kind train driver waiting there. She said that I had made the right decision to just come and see what would happen. And indeed, I was incredibly lucky. The boarding ramp on my side was marked as defective. She then removed the sign, unlocked the control box, and said that we would see what happened. The ramp actually extended, but it made a lot of noise, which meant that maintenance was needed. I was able to board the train and be taken along. She said that I had done it right by just coming to the train and seeing what would happen. You should never give up and always keep trying. I was very happy to hear this, because it was also my opinion. This is also expressed in many different ways in my book Forward—Giving Up is Not an Option.

I wish everyone the same—don’t give up, because solutions often come completely unexpectedly from unexpected sources!

Warm regards, Eugen
